"Hi Rosemary, Just wanted to touch base and wish you a Merry Christmas from us all.

Jabula has become a wonderful, gentle loving member of our family. One we can't image being without. Hope you had a wonderful trip back in August. Have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year.
Best wishes, Karen, Luke, Abbey, Sophie, Lucy, Camilla and of course Jabula"

Ipswich Kennel Club Show held at Durack, Brisbane and Goldie is awarded Best of Breed at both the Championship Show and the Open Show.

November 2022

Maree Kennel Club Show and Caelum is awarded Best in Group at the Open Show.
25 November
At the Northern Classic All Breeds show in Brisbane today,  our gorgeous boy Caelum (Ch Chilolo BM Gold On The Moon) was awarded a 23 point Best of Breed and then went on to Best Junior In Show.   His sister Goldie (Ch Chilolo BM Gold Moon Rising) was Reserve Challenge Bitch.
24/25 November
Two night shows this weekend in Brisbane with a big entry of 22 RRs at the first show.  Caelum again took the honours with Best of Breed and then went on to Junior in Group and Best Junior in Show!!

Goldie was Reserve Challenge Bitch.  At the second championship show, the judge completely overlooked Caelum LOL but Goldie was awarded Challenge Bitch.

At the Open show Caelum was Best In Hound Group and Goldie was Best RR Bitch.
17-20 November
Bundaberg Kennel Club put on a big weekend of 6 shows with a panel of international and interstate judges. The venue at Bundaberg is lovely - good camping facilities (I hired a caravan) and a wonderful undercover area to show in.

I entered Caelum, Kimau and Goldie, Julie came with Stellar, her young puppy from Solar and Samara, and Jo came with Ren who is from Tuku and Nikki. We had a great time socially and the dogs did well against some tough competition.

On the Friday and Saturday morning, there was not much love for Caelum and Goldie who could only manage Reserve Dog and Bitch through no fault of their own. Saturday afternoon Goldie was Challenge Bitch and Runner Up Best of Breed, Ren was Reserve Challenge and Caelum was Best Junior In Group.

Saturday morning under world renowned international judge from Canada Mr Richard Paquette, Caelum was Best of Breed, Ren was Challenge Bitch, Goldie was Reserve Challenge and Best Australian Bred in Group.

Saturday afternoon Caelum was Reserve Challenge, Runner Up Best of Breed and Junior In Group, Ren was Challenge Bitch and Goldie Reserve.  Sunday morning our main opposition packed up and went home!

Kimau was Challenge Dog under Mr Rumpler from New Zealand and Caelum Reserve, Ren was Challenge Bitch and Best of Breed, Goldie Reserve Challenge and Stellar was Best Baby Puppy in Group.
11/12 November
I drove to Kyogle with Caelum this weekend for 3 shows but unfortunately had to come back after the second show. Greg saw a big brown snake on Saturday so I spent Sunday on the mower to keep the grass down in the dog run and round the house.

Caelum never lets me down and he was awarded Best of Breed and Runner Up in Group on Friday and Best of Breed and Best Junior In Show on Saturday.  On Friday night I stayed in Murwillumbah with Neroli who is a daughter of Frank Sheldon.  Frank, who is now in his  nineties, was one of the first people in Australia to breed a litter of Ridgebacks. He lived with his family at Goodooga near Lightning Ridge in NSW and used his dogs for pig hunting. I had never met him before and it was lovely to have dinner with him and his family on Friday night. On Saturday, Neroli drove him to the show where he and Neroli enjoyed watching all the dogs and having a ridgeback fix with Caelum.

Lovely photo of Jasmine and Joe with their children and Spud who is an integral part of their family.  Spud is from our Herc and Holly litter born December 2018.

A bitter sweet day today at Gatton showgrounds where the Qld Lure Coursing Club held their last event for the year.  Julie and Sascha (from our Chatter - Nikki litter born 18 January 2018) have been lurecoursing for the past 10 years and as Sascha is now 11 ½ years of age, Julie has sensibly decided to retire her from coursing events.

Sascha has had an amazing career and is now a Lure Courser Of Excellence.  To be able to compete at her age is a tribute to her excellent conformation and athleticism and by the look on her face, she just loves it!  Congratulations to Julie and Sascha for a wonderful career!!
15 October
I have been very remiss not to mention Jo and Ren's achievements over the past few months. Ren is now Australian Champion Chilolo TN Serengeti Gold and is from our Tuku - Nikki litter born 10 July 2021.  Jo and Ren have had a lot of success in the showring over the past few months. The latest was winning 2 x Best State Bred in Hound Group at the Isis Kennel Club shows on 14/15 October.  Super congratulations to you both and we look forward to watching your success continue.
1 & 2 October
This weekend was the annual Rhodesian Ridgeback Specialty Show which is held in Sydney.  The usual grounds were ruled unsafe because of the continuous rainfall so the show was moved to the Hawkesbury Show Grounds. Lovely grounds with a huge undercover area for the show and gravel underfoot on the outside areas so not too muddy for exercising the dogs.  The judges were both long time RR breeders - Jan Benson-Lidolm from Western Australia on the Saturday and Anna Lane (Etosha) from Victoria on the Sunday.  I took Nikki, Joey, Kimau and Caelum as well as Bubbles and Goldie and they really did us proud.

Saturday

Caelum 1st place  Bred By Exhibitor Class
Joey 1st place Open Dog and Reserve Challenge Dog

Mpanda and her adoring owner, Brendan, are moving from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast and there is lots to do at the new property. Mpanda always likes supervising and "helping" and one of these pics she is "helping" spread mulch at their new property.
17/18/19 September
Stephen and Trish decided to take a road trip from Perth to the eastern coast and it has taken then about 10 days to arrive in Canberra for some shows.  At the ACT Hound Show on 17th, Steve and Ray were awarded Challenge Dog and Runner Up Best of Breed.  At the second show, Ranger was Best of Breed and at the next two shows he was Challenge Dog.  Super accomplishment after such a long trip and against some very strong competition. Congratulations Stephen and Ranger!!
August 2022
July/August
I should have posted these photos before. So proud of Sascha and Ricki.  Sascha (from Chatter-Nikki litter born 16 January 2018) was sold as a pet to a family in Brisbane who returned him to us when he was about 15 months old because he was "destructive".

I happily took him back, showed him to his Australian Champion title which he gained easily and then gave him to Ricki as she had just lost her old dog.

Ricki started him lurecoursing at which he has excelled and he is now a Dual Champion and has also gained his ET (Endurance Test) title.  Super congratulations Ricki and Sascha!!

Ricki and Sascha gain the award for the Best Sighthound run at the lure coursing event held in Brisbane.  This is the 5th time this year that Sascha has won this award. Go Sascha and Ricki!!!!!

Lovely email from one of our recent puppy buyers.  Coco is from our Bubbles - Nikki litter born 28 May and belongs to Wendy and her family in Brisbane

"Hi Rosemary, Just a quick update to let you know that Coco has well and truly become one of the family. She is extremely loving and affectionate but also very mischievous and seems to like to consider most requests made of her (haha).

With strict supervision she is co-existing with our chickens, horse and even the cat has relented in his stalking and terrorism tactics. Puppy pre-school in interesting with a couple of spoodles and various miniature breeds but she has been getting plenty of play dates with my Mum's kelpie puppy.

We might need to track down some 'real dogs' in couple of weeks when we can get out and about post her 2nd vaccination. Thank-you for giving us such a gorgeous addition to the family. Best wishes, Wendy"

Sad news from the UK from Jo and her family. Trapper was from our Martini - Chukkie litter born 30 September 2013.

Sincere thanks to Jo and her family for giving him such a wonderful home "And within two hours he was gone. Trapper, I could write a book about how wonderful you were, how kind, how empathetic, how intelligent, how compassionate, how funny, how simply extraordinary, but no words would ever do you justice.

So I will just say this: Trapper. Unforgettable. Irreplaceable. Loved forever. 30/9/2013 - 6/8/2022. Safe journey into the light, my darling boy. Xxx"

We just hate receiving emails with sad news like this. The good part is that Mitch and Cass gave Bruce such a wonderful home during his short time on this earth. :

"Hi Rosemary, We hope you are well. You may remember my wife Cassie and I got Bruce from you and had him flown down to Melbourne 5 years ago. He was the red and white check collar pup from the Chatter/Dudley litter.

Yesterday was the hardest day of our lives, we had to say goodbye to Bruce forever. While we were walking our usual route, he must have got a sniff of something that excited him and he bolted onto the road which he has never done before. Unfortunately a car was coming past at that time and although the best efforts were made by the vetinary nurses, he suffered a cardiac arrest and was unable to make it through.

I know it may seem like a quick turnaround between losing our most loved companion and thinking about getting a new one. Our initial thoughts were that we could never have another dog again as we don't ever want to feel like we do right now however we've now realised that without Bruce being here with us, there is a massive hole in our hearts.

We gave every ounce of our love to Bruce and although he can never be replaced, we feel like we need another companion in our lives so we can continue to give our unconditional love.  We wanted to email you to enquire if you would have any upcoming litters and if so, we would be happy to pay a deposit straight away to secure a pup so we can begin to fill the void left by Bruce.

He was the most amazing dog we and the majority of our friends and family have ever met. He was more than a dog, he was our son (we don't have any kids) and we would love to get another Chilolo puppy for this reason.

Please let us know ASAP if there is anything coming up, we would be so grateful.  Sorry for the long winded email Rosemary. As you can imagine we were a little hesitant to ask you given what has just happened to Bruce but wanted to convey just how much he meant to us and how much he was loved.

Ive attached some pics of our best boy who we hope is loving sunbaking in the afterlife. We look forward to hearing from you.  Kind regards,  Mitch and Cass "

Lovely when people send us updates on their puppies.  Zuri is from our Biko - Taboo litter born January 2021 so I guess Lena and David are getting ready for a second one!  One is never enough!!

"Hi Rosemary, Hope you are well!  Just wondering if you are planning on any more litters soon? Zuri would love a playmate that is bigger than 5kg haha.  Have attached a recent photo of Zuzu for ya... typical Chilolo! Cheers, Lena"

Another email from Jesse who lost his girl, Nala recently.  His Nala was from our Nala - Makani litter born June 2014 so she lived to a good age but it is always sad when they leave us.

"Hi Rosemary, I thought to let you know that Nala passed yesterday. She would have been 13 yrs old in a few months. We buried her on our property under a large tallowwood.  I think she had a good run. For the last 6 years her and Archie have had lots of space to roam on our acreage property. Our family misses her but have Archie to keep us company.  Regards, Jesse"

Wouldn't it be lovely if our dogs lived forever?  Received this email from a lovely family who bought Digby from our Shala - Hawk litter born July 2011

"Hi Rosemary, I had a look on your website but I couldn't see any recent info about upcoming litters this year. We lost our beautiful Digby in November last year (he was 10yrs) it was really tough for all of us and I thought I would never be able to have another dog again but now our home and hearts feel empty.

Wanting to know what plans you have in the future and how long the wait list is these day and any other changes since we last had a Chilolo pup.  Kind regards.  Alysha & Cameron"

Lovely message from John in Warrnambool who has our gorgeous boy, Kenny.  Kenny is from our Ditto - Mickey litter almost 2 years ago.

" Hi Rosemary, just a quick message to let you know that this boy is amazing, he is such a happy boy and totally dotes on my girl. If she falls behind in the bush tracks he waits for her and they have a big smooch and it's game on again.  Love him so much for filling the void from my princess as he is like a reincarnation of her. He even has to be just like her in bed, ie up against me but does not snore like her lol. Cheers John"

Today I flew to Perth for the RR Club of Western Australia Specialty Show. I had a flight booked 2 years ago but was unable to go because of covid so I had a credit with the airline which had to be used before July.

I was ecstatic to see Caelum's brother, Luka was awarded Challenge Dog and Runner Up Best of Show at the first show and 2nd in his class at the second show.  Eva, owned and handled by Tanya Brooker, was Challenge Bitch and BEST IN SHOW at both shows. Eva is Chilolo HH Spin It In Gold and is a litter sister to our girl, Tuku.  That gave Eva enough points for her Australian Championship so fabulous result Tanya!!!

And this post from Ann's daughter, Kelly:  "Chilolo Burnt Tua - "Crisp" and in her golden years "Crispy". 04/02/2008 - 22/01/2022.

The BEST dog there ever has been. Beautiful companion for our children, and Pete and I. Much adored by Stormy who will also miss her terribly. Australian champion and mother to a few as well I believe.

Thank you to my mum for retiring her with us six years ago. I knew her from a pup and could not fault a thing about her. The most beautiful nature I've ever seen. Calm, gentle, affectionate, obedient, a great dog to walk and with a huge bark when she wanted!

She was adored by even those people who think they don't like dogs. We will be lost without you in our home but you will forever be in our hearts big girl. Peacefully and dignified, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home"

Received this sad email today:

"Good Morning Rosemary,   With great sadness, I'm just letting you know that our second Rhodesian of yours has just passed. Rio, Trio's son who had just turned 12 last month was having some intestinal problems, given his age we chose to put him to sleep whilst he was still comfortable.

He had developed dozens of small thumb sized cysts that we could see externally, a couple of internal ones had protruded enough to see on the surface and  he'd likely formed one or more others internally that were interfering with the gut.

At 12, we thought going through exploratory surgery would be hugely unfair.  Our concern was for his comfort and quality of life first.  It's been nearly two and a half years since I emailed you last, after Rahma passed. Rio really came out of his shell after that and grew a very strong bond with our now 7 year old daughter.

Even at 12 years of age she would take him outside and train with him.  We owe you so much for the wonderful years we have spent with your Rhodesians, thank you.  I have attached a picture of Emily and Rio from just a few weeks ago, a tough afternoon lazing in the yard. It's a puppies life.

Kindest Regards   Mark, Virginia and Emily
RIP Rio 3/12/2009 - 14/1/2022"

Ann Christie posted this on FB today.  Crisp was from our Cracker/Whisper litter born almost 14 years ago. "It is with a heavy heart we say "good bye" to beautiful CRISP - Australian Champion Chilolo W C Burnt Tua. 2weeks short of her 14th birthday.

She brought so much happiness to our home on the farm and then to my grandchildren who learnt how to look after and love and enjoy your dog.

She will be sadly missed by all who loved her. Fly high beautiful girl, till we meet over the rainbow"

This is a lovely way to start off the New Year.  Sasha is from our Tuku - Nikki litter born 10 July last year:

"Happy New Year Rosemary,  Hope you had a lovely Christmas.  Just wanted to touch base with you and let you know how well Sasha is doing.  I can't tell you how much I adore her, she is just beautiful.  She has been a bit naughty lately chewing up things ( starting that teenage stage).  We have never had a dog in the house before but she is allowed in she is very well behaved and very smart.  She is amazing with the grandkids very protective of them.  Hope you like the photos.  Thank you for breeding such wonderful dogs and very grateful I have her.   Regards  Margie "
