Super congratulations to Jo Russell and Karen Spark for their recent success in the ring with their Caelum progeny.

At her first show aged 4 months Mustard (Marandela Fireburn) and Karen were awarded Best Baby Puppy in Hound Group at Brunswick Valley KC on 21 July . Mustard is out of Karen's home bred bitch Ch Marandela The Phantom Chance ET TD.

In Brisbane last Saturday Jo with Soda (Rockridges Gold From Chilolo) were awarded Best Exhibit In Hound Group at the tender age of 8 months 10 days.

Both these puppies are from Caelum's first 2 litters. Caelum is Supreme Ch Chilolo BM Gold On The Moon who himself has been awarded 3 x Best In Group awards and 1 x Runner Up In Group at his last 4 shows.

Looking forward to watching these 2 youngsters grow and develop

Ricki sent me these fabulous photos of her boy, Sascha (Dual Ch (LC) Chilolo CHN Cool Sascha ET LCX).  Sascha is from our Chatter and Nikki litter and is so good at lure coursing.  The Dual Championship refers to the fact that he is a conformation champion as well as a lure coursing champion and he loves to do both. Such a happy, sweet natured boy.

We had Lure coursing on Sunday at Kuraby on 7th July. We did our first 100m Sprint last for Competition. Gosh he is fast 8.35 seconds @43.11kmph!! And on 21 July his time for the first run was 8.01 then second run 7.95. Fastest of the 4 ridgies there by 0.01 of a second!  Everyone at lure coursing just loves him and of course he just leans on them all sucking it up"

Ridgebacks are so quirky sometimes.  This is Bubbles who likes to get up on things! She decided she would sit on the breakfast bar this morning and look out of the window. Funny girl!

Jo Russell has Ren (Ch Chilolo TN Serengeti Gold) from our Tuku and Nikki litter and then she purchased Harlow from our Tuku and Barry litter and she juggles Ren, Hasrlow and her homebred puppy, Soda, between sporting events like scent work and the showring. Don't know how she does it but her dogs are all very successful. Harlow is now known as Chilolo TBY Harlow Gold (AI)  SWN.   Jo sent me this message today:

"Ren had pups so I could only do local stuff & I enrolled Harlow in an 8 week Scent Work Training course. 5 days after completing the course Harlow was awarded her 1st qualifying certificate, less than 4 weeks later she gained the last of 6 qualifying certificate attaining her Scent Work Novice title. All before her first birthday.

Once Harlow's niece, Soda, was old enough, we had a brief return to showing which quite literally bored Harlow, as has a passion for Scent Work. Harlow has now gained her first qualifying certificates in Advanced Scent Work and in between she has had a Novice Lure Course run and her first points towards her Sprint Dog title.

Now juggling 3 girls with different interests we'll continue Harlow down the dog sport path. She is proof there's so much more to a ridgeback than being beautiful"

Sue and her husband live at Valla which is not far from Coffs Harbour on the New South Wales coast. There is a local group called the Rollicking Ridgies which has get togethers every now and then so Sue took her Caelum-Bubbles puppy, Zuva, to meet some other RRs.

This is the message I got from her " Hi  -  Zuva went to her first Rollicking Ridges Meet today.

She had a ball especially as there were two other puppies there.  -  Sue"

Lovely update on one of our Triska - Luka puppies, Rusty, born 30 March.  Rusty went to live with Jason and his family who have a fishing business and spend lots of time on the water.

"Hi Rosemary - Rusty is  going well , definitely becoming a very important part of the family . Today was his first trip out on the bay , pretty sure he enjoyed himself. Thanks.  Jason"

Another update from Anthea and Jarrod in Sydney who have Lexi from our Bubbles - Caelum litter born 9 March.  Lexi was tiny when she was born and is a liver nose baby.

"Thanks Rosemary - looking forward to keeping in touch with all the other puppies and their owners.  Lexi is also a huge eater - had to get her a slow feeder bowl to slow her down! She is also the smartest one we have ever owned - she is the star pupil at Puppy Preschool "

And from Kat in Brisbane who has Isaac from our Bubbles - Caelum litter

"Thanks so much Rosemary! Little Isaac has expensive taste of leather and crocs. All arms and legs, he eats more than any Chilolo ridgeback I've had so far"

Sometimes the news we receive is very sad but I guess it is all part of life.  Kessi was born November 2020 from our Samara - Chukkie litter so is very young to have such an awful diagnosis.

"Hi Rosemary - I am writing to you to let you know that our beautiful, loyal, gentle girl has been diagnosed with bone cancer.   I had taken her to our vet thinking she had sprained her left front leg joint and was devastated to learn of the diagnosis.

Kessi has been an absolute joy albeit a little trying at times with her typical independent nature.  She is on pain medication and continues with running around like a mad thing.  The prognosis was 2 to 4 months but no signs of it having spread yet.

Shall just continue to spoil and love her and carry on. My husband Ian passed nearly 2 years ago now so this news is traumatic to say the least. The photo was taken a few days ago at Currumbin Beach. Hope this finds you well.  Kind regards  Lee"

Update from Cayce who has Obi from our Bubbles - Caelum litter born 9 March.  Looks like she has plenty of toys to occupy herself with!!

"Hi, Obi has settled in well. Loves to watch me in the kitchen from the back of the couch lol and falls asleep there. Warm regards Cayce"

March
Such a fabulous season on the property and we have lots of feed for the cattle going into winter which is wonderful.  Caelum looking good and Joey almost lost in the Rhodes grass.
1st March

This was supposed to be a weekend of shows in NSW but unfortunately I had to come home after the first show.

Caelum was awarded Best of Breed, Goldie was Challenge Bitch, Runner Up Best of Breed and Best Intermediate in Group and Ditto was 3rd in Neuter Sweepstakes class and R/Up Neuter In Group!

It was so stinking hot but the dogs all performed well.

At the Dogs Queensland sports presentation on 18th February 2023,  Dr Gaille Perry, chair of the Dogs Queensland Lure Coursing Subcommittee presented awards to another brother and sister combination:

Samara - Dual CH (LC) Chilolo CHN Cool Samara ET LCM
who gained her Lure Courser of Merit title

Sascha - Dual CH (LC) Chilolo CHN Cool Sascha ET LCX,
who gained his Lure Courser of Excellent title

Samara, owned by Julie David, and Sascha, owned by Ricki Smith, are both from out Nikki - Chatter litter and have excelled in the lure coursing field since they first started.  Sascha was actually returned to us by the people who had bought him as a puppy when he was around 18 months of age.  I kept him for a couple of months and handled him to his Australian Champion title and then he went to live with Ricki. He is shown occasionally, winning his class at the 2023 RR National, but more often he can be seen at the lure coursing tracks.  Supre congratulations to Julie and Ricki and Samara and Sascha.

January 2024

We are very proud to announce that we ended 2023 with Number 1 and Number 3 Rhodesian Ridgeback of the Year in line with the DogzOnLine Pointscore competition.

Caelum and Goldie, litter brother and sister (which I think would be a first time in the competition), respectively. Caelum has been sparingly shown throughout the year due to my other commitments but was awarded Best Exhibit In Hound Group at our last show of the year in Brisbane last December which gave him the points he needed to end up Number 1.
